Product Details:

• Purpose: SDB is a complex medium used for the cultivation and isolation of yeasts, molds, and dermatophytes.
• Composition:
  • High concentration of Dextrose (glucose) promotes yeast and mold growth.
  • Low pH inhibits bacterial growth.
  • No agar is added to this broth formulation.
• Uses:
  • Microbiological examination of non-sterile products.
  • Cultivation of fungi, particularly those associated with skin infections.
• Preparation:
  • Combine all ingredients in approximately 900 ml of deionized water.
  • Adjust pH to 5.6 with hydrochloric acid.
  • Autoclave at 121°C for 15 minutes.
  • Cool to around 45-50°C and pour into tubes or petri dishes for slants.
• Incubation:
  • Incubate molds at room temperature (22-25°C).
  • Incubate yeasts at 28-30°C or 37°C if suspected of being dimorphic fungi.
  • Incubation times vary depending on the type of fungi
