Calcium Chlorides

Product Details:

·         Purpose: Calcium chloride is an ionic compound composed of chlorine and calcium.

·         Appearance: It exists as a white powder in its anhydrous form or as white to colorless crystals when hydrated.

·         Solubility: Highly soluble in water, making it hygroscopic (absorbs moisture from the air).

·         Enthalpy Change: Has a very high enthalpy change of solution.

·         Uses:

o    Dust Control: Used for dust control on roads.

o    De-icing: Effective for melting ice and snow on roads.

o    Desiccant: Acts as a drying agent.

·         Preparation:

o    Reacting calcium carbonate with hydrochloric acid.

o    Produced as a by-product of the Solvay process for soda ash manufacture.

·         Structure: Comprises calcium cations (Ca²⁺) and chloride anions (Cl⁻).

·         Safety: Odourless and considered safe for its intended uses.
